Bottled water is fine in the Library, and will help keep you hydrated and alert while you're working, but please don't bring in other drinks or any food. Please read on to see why...

Polite reminder

You are welcome to bring drinking water in a secure container into the Library to drink while you’re working (and fill up from the tap in any of the bathrooms in the Department), but please don’t bring in other drinks or any food.

We need to keep our unique collections and heritage environment free from sticky liquids and fingers for many more years to come.

If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty you probably need a break.

Go outside for a picnic and some fresh air, or visit one of the many cafes nearby and come back refreshed and ready to work smarter.

Thanks for your co-operation.

The University Library and all Faculty and Departmental Libraries are closed until further notice - but we are open to users online. Please check our FAQs for information on how to access Library services during this time. Email enquiries to
