About the Whipple Library

The Whipple Library is the University's specialist library for the History and Philosophy of Science. It exists primarily to support the teaching and research activities of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science where the Whipple Library is located. We also welcome and encourage users from other departments and faculties from across the University. Our collections comprise both modern and rare books covering a range of interdisciplinary topics.

The Whipple is affiliated to Cambridge University Library and uses many of the systems and processes common to libraries around Cambridge. Most important of these is the shared online catalogue, iDiscover, where you can search the collections of all the Cambridge University libraries.

Who can use the Whipple Library?

We are open to students and staff from all University departments and faculties, and alumni with a current University Library card. Staff and students of other universities, or independent researchers, are also welcome. Please contact us for further information on visiting the Library.

In common with University Library policy, non-University members must be aged 18 years or over to use the Whipple Library, unless by special arrangement.
