What is Click & Collect?

Click & Collect allows you to request books to be retrieved from the Whipple Library collections.

You can collect your orders from the library front desk. The books will have been issued to your library account and will be placed in a bag for you to take away.

We hope this service will allow you to be access the books you need as quickly and safely as possible.

Who is eligible to use Click & Collect?

The service is available to all library users who are eligible to borrow from Cambridge University Libraries. To find out if you are eligible to borrow, check our access and registration page.

How does the service work?

  • Start by searching iDiscover for the books you need. You may wish to limit your results to the Whipple Library. There is help with using iDiscover if you need it.
  • Once you have identified the books you need, use the Click & Collect form to submit your request. You can request up to 5 books at a time.
  • We will add the books to your library account, and you will be able to collect them after 2pm the next working day. If there is a problem with your request, a member of library staff will contact you by email.
  • Books will be reshelved if you do not collect them within 1 week.

How many books can I request?

You can request up to 5 books at a time.

How soon can I collect my books?

Books will be available after 2pm the next working day. Books will be available to collect for one week, after which they will be put back into circulation for others to borrow.

Can I collect books on behalf of someone else/ask someone else to collect books on my behalf?

Yes. The form allows you to name someone who will be collecting the books. The person collecting books should have their University card or a copy of the request confirmation.

Can I return books at the same time?

Yes, you can return books at the same time as collecting. If you have reached your borrowing limit staff will notify you in advance of your visit that you should return books before any further books can be issued.

Return books to the front desk of the library when you arrive and staff will clear them from your account. You can also return books through the front door of the HPS Department, but these books will not be cleared from your account immediately.

Can I borrow books from other libraries?

Click & Collect services are offered by the University Library and some other faculty and departmental libraries. Please check individual library websites for details.

Please note that you cannot request that books from other libraries are delivered to the Whipple Library. You will need to submit a separate request to all libraries you need to borrow from.
