Papers by Prof. Sir William & James Thomson
24 items bound in 1

This volume contains a number of papers by William Thomson and his older brother James (1822-1892), mechanical engineer and professor of engineering at Glasgow from 1873. Dated between 1871 and 1880, it is unclear when these papers were bound together, or whether their ordering was intentional. The items include printed lectures, papers and correspondence from publications such as the Proceedings of the Royal Society and Philosophical Magazine, and reports from the BAAS committee on tidal observations. Some items are addressed from James Thomson to George Darwin personally. The fact that Darwin collected these items, and that they were at some point bound together, suggests they were useful for reference, or valued in some way, and reveal the communication of theories and ideas.
