What is Click & Collect?

Click & Collect enables current library members to request books to be retrieved from the Whipple Library’s collections.

Your requests will be waiting at the Whipple Library front desk. The books for collection will have been issued to your library account and will be placed in a bag for you to carry away.

We hope this service will allow you to be access the books you need as quickly and safely as possible.

Who is eligible to use Click & Collect?

This service is available to all current staff and students who have a library account. This includes staff and students who have not already registered directly with the Whipple Library as well as those who have.

How does the service work?

  • Start by searching iDiscover for the item you need- perhaps limiting by library, to ensure you’re focusing on books held in the Whipple Library. There’s help on using iDiscover here.
  • Once you’ve identified the book you want, use this form to submit your request. The form lets you request up to 5 books at a time.
  • Library staff will contact you by email to confirm when your books are ready to collect, or if there is a problem with your request.
  • Come to the Whipple Library front desk and present your University Card. The books you have requested will have been issued to your library account and will be placed in a bag for you to carry away.
  • Please follow instructions around social distancing when in the library.

How are you ensuring my safety and the safety of library staff?

The safety of library users and library staff is paramount, and at the heart of all of our recovery planning. Safety measures relevant to click & collect services include:

  • We are minimising handling of books and all other materials.
  • Your books will be waiting in a bag so that if you wish to wait 24hrs before using them, as a quarantine measure, you’re able to do so.
  • Sanitisers are available in the library for use.
  • We have a protective screen at the library front desk - however please wear a face covering when in the building if you are able to do so.
  • Please follow social distancing guidelines in the library, and maintain a 2m distance from any other library members collecting books at the same time. We have marked 2m boundaries with tape.
  • We hope this service will allow you to enter and leave the library quickly.
  • We request that you do not use anti-bacterial wipes on any library books as this may cause damage, but encourage you to wash your hands regularly since library books are a shared resource.

Frequently asked questions

How many books can I request? | How soon can I collect my books? | Can I collect books on behalf of someone else? | Can I return books at the same time? | Can I borrow books from other libraries? | Further questions?

How many books can I request?

You can request up to 5 books at a time.

How soon can I collect my books?

Books will be available after 2pm the next working day. Books will be available to collect for 5 working days, after which they will be put back into circulation for others to borrow.

Can I collect books on behalf of someone else/ask someone else to collect books on my behalf?

Yes. The form allows you to name someone who will be collecting the books. The person collecting books should bring the order confirmation email, either printed out or as an email.

Can I return books at the same time?

Yes, you can return books at the same time as collecting. If you have reached your borrowing limit staff will notify you in advance of your visit that you should return books before any further books can be issued.

Return books to the front desk of the library when you arrive and staff will clear them from your account. You can also return books to the drop-boxes on the Sidgwick Site or through the front door of the HPS Department, but these books will not be cleared from your account immediately.

Can I borrow books from other libraries?

There is a Click and Collect service at the University Library, and other libraries will also be offering similar services - check with individual libraries for details.

Please note that you cannot request that books from other libraries are delivered to the Whipple Library. You will need to submit a separate request to all libraries you need to borrow from.
